General precautions
General precautions
Disconnect battery earth lead.
Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated).
Observe tightening torques.
If fitted: Mark position of crankshaft position (CKP) sensor before removal.
Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other sprockets.
Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with timing chain removed.

Removal
Align crankshaft keyway at 12 o'clock position [1]11698.
Check oil pump chain deflection [2]11698.
NOTE: Replace oil pump chain and check sprockets for wear if deflection 'X' [2]11698is more than 7 mm.
Remove oil pump sprocket and chain.
Fit balancer shaft chain tensioner clamp [3]11698.
Remove front camshaft bolt [4]11698.
Remove balancer shaft sprocket bolt [5]11698.
Remove idler sprocket circlips [6] & [7]11698.
Remove balancer shaft chain and sprockets.
Remove balancer shaft chain tensioner clamp [3]11698.

Check protrusion of timing chain tensioners 'X' [8] & [9]11698.
NOTE: Replace chains and check sprockets for wear if 'X' [8] & [9]11698is more than 9,5 mm.
Lock timing chain tensioners in retracted position:
Turn tensioner pawls fully anti-clockwise [10] & [11].
Remove timing chain tensioners.
Remove rear camshaft sprocket bolt [12]11698.
Remove rear camshaft sprocket and chain.
Remove front camshaft sprocket and chain.
NOTE: If timing chains are to be reused, identify them for refitting to the same cylinder head.
Installation
Align crankshaft keyway at 12 o'clock position [1]11698.
Ensure camshaft dowels aligned as shown [13] & [14]11698.
Align crankshaft keyway towards front camshaft sprocket bolt [15]11698.
Refit timing chain tensioners. Tightening torque: 10 Nm.
Lock in retracted position:
Turn tensioner pawls fully anti-clockwise [10] & [11].
Fit front timing chain and camshaft sprocket ensuring marked links aligned:
1 marked link at crankshaft sprocket timing mark [16].
2 marked links at camshaft sprocket timing mark [17].
Turn crankshaft clockwise until keyway is at 6 o'clock position [18]11698.
Fit rear timing chain and camshaft sprocket ensuring marked links aligned:
1 marked link at crankshaft sprocket timing mark [19].
2 marked links at camshaft sprocket timing mark [20].
Fit rear camshaft sprocket bolt [12]11698. Tightening torque: 80 Nm. Use thread locking compound on threads.
Release the timing chain tensioners:
Turn tensioner pawls fully clockwise [10] & [11].
Fit balancer shaft chain tensioner clamp [3]11698.
Fit balancer shaft chain and sprockets ensuring marked links aligned:
1 marked link at the balancer shaft sprocket timing mark [21].
1 marked link at balancer shaft camshaft sprocket timing mark [22].
NOTE: Use either of the 2 symmetrical timing marks on the balancer shaft camshaft sprocket.
Fit balancer shaft sprocket bolt [5]11698.
Turn balancer shaft camshaft sprocket and chain assembly to engage dowel [14]11698.
Fit front camshaft sprocket bolt [4]11698. Tightening torque: 80 Nm. Use thread locking compound on threads.
Tighten balancer shaft sprocket bolt [5]11698. Tightening torque: 25 Nm. Use thread locking compound on threads.
Fit idler sprocket circlips [6] & [7]11698.
Remove balancer shaft chain tensioner clamp [3]11698.
Fit oil pump sprocket and chain. Tightening torque: 6 Nm. Use thread locking compound on threads.
Fit crankshaft pulley and nut. Tightening torque: 260 Nm. Use thread locking compound on threads.
NOTE: Use thread locking compound on timing chain guide rail and tensioner shoe bolts.
